April in Retrospect

The month of April was a tumultuous month for the organization formerly known as the Somerton Spartans.  The fans saw a new owner buy the team.  They saw their team ripped away from them.  A new fan base emerged to take grasp of the team to claim it as their's.  They then immediately had worthless jerseys that had a certain star player's name and number on the back of it meanwhile having yet seen their team in purple win a game.

The residents of New Orleans saw their fine city get a new VBL6 franchise.  While it's not a contending team immediately, it is a team.  The former Somerton Spartans have fallen on hard times.  Not much of a major league team, and not a lot of prospects to count on.  The road will be long, but the fans who jump on board now can say they were there at the beginning.  They were there for that first home loss.  They were their when their new prized hero got got post-concussion syndrome that saw a fine soldier and bright future star's career cut short as Raul Yan has had to call it quits.

The New Orleans Looters franchise has yet to win a game after losing 12 straight games upon the takeover by Scott Thompson.  However, all is not lost.  Thompson knew that this team didn't need to focus on immediate results.  Instead it must look to the future.  Look toward acquiring prospects that can lead this franchise out of the cellar.  Look toward making an investment in the amateur draft to find the future stars and raise the bar of a lowly farm system.

Can the New Orleans Looters climb out of the basement?  It'll be long ride, or at a few years.  There will be no instant gratifications, but this is what being the fan of a team is about.  Being there in the tough times and what makes the good times even sweeter.
