The Looters today put the wraps on a trade to acquire a new rotation member to take a spot at the top of the rotation. Long desired by Looters management a new rotation member to accompany Tyler Law has been found. Many pundits such as Poddammit legend Mike "Mad Cat" Brouillette has been clamoring for this.
The Looters announced today the acquisition of the most popular player from the St. Charles Sheens, starting pitcher Gilberto Montano. Montano, who Looters scouts recognize as a borderline ace, is still only 26 years old and has many years left in him. He's also signed for only $6.7M a year through 2015 not putting a strain on the budget. But to acquire a pitcher of this caliber it took some fine prospects.
The Looters also exchanged large contracts relieving their debt of Hyung-Jin Park who is owed $12.6M this year and $9.5M next year. In exchange, the Looters will get disposed OF Bernardo Caro. Caro has been in AAA for the Sheens, and likely will remain there.
Other than Park, no major leaguers were lost in the acquisition of a front line starter, but it will tax the minor league system a bit. The Looters have sent SP Francisco Moreno, CF John Mendelson, 1B Alfredo Rivera, and CL Shan Liu. Moreno and Mendelson are obviously the prize acquisitions for the Sheens, although both are still a number of years away from the majors. Mendelson profiles as a DH type who can play the outfield in a pinch, but is blocked at DH by Tony Marin. Moreno though is a prize to be had and if he develops could be Montano level. But in order to get a player who can play at a high level now, it always takes a couple players like Moreno and Mendelson to acquire a player like Montano. Rivera is a hit or miss type that could turn out to be a nice hitter, but blocked in New Orleans by Luis Alou and Tony Marin.
