New Orleans, LA - Things began looking a lot better for the new Looters GM in May. The team posted a 12-16 record and avoided being swept in any full series played in May (the final 2 games of a 3 game sweep by the Hitman completed in May). Despite that the Looters only had 2 series wins in series completed in May. The high point of the month was a 3 game sweep at the Denver Dynasty. The other series win came at home against the El Paso Diablo winning 2 of the 3 games. The Looters also ended the month strong finishing the final 2 half of the month from the 16th on at a 7-7 pace. The Looters management hope for a .500 month for the month of June.
Stars of the Month
SS Jose Cabrera - .309/.372/.427 with 1 HR, 18 RBI in 110 ABs
Cabrera has done what he historically has done and that's play a solid shortstop while providing a bit of offense from the bottom of the lineup. Jose is a player who likely won't be around for a championship in New Orleans, but is doing well enough to make himself attractive enough to be tradable to a contender at the trade deadline.
1B/2B Jaime Manuel - .350/.355/.415 with 5 RBI and 51 total bases
Manuel didn't knock in a lot of runners, and didn't take many walks, but he got on base at a good rate and had a 20 game hit streak snapped during the month. Manuel is still young and learning at the level, and has been asked to play some 2B to allow roster room to play both Crowley and Lammas at 1B and DH as well.
SP Pedro Oliveira - 1.83 ERA, 1-1 record, 3 GS, 0.97 WHIP
Pedro will never be a star, but he's a solid middle of the rotation starter that can pitch well and catch a hot streak. He was a stopper for a number of losing streaks this year and is being moved up in the rotation. Oliveira is playing into having value at the trade deadline for a contender looking to bolster the back of their rotation.
RP Chris Woodruff - 0.57 ERA, 2-0 record, 12 games, 15.2 IP, 0.57 WHIP
Chris has been valuable in middle relief this season since being picked up off of waivers in April. He was the first acquisition under new management from the waiver wire and has been proving his worth since coming. Woodruff is another that is showing his value to a contender and has kept many games close to allow the Looters a chance to win.
Criminals of the Month
SP Armando Felix - 5.40 ERA, 1-5 record in 7 starts, 43.1 IP, 1.66 WHIP
Felix is someone who has a lot of value, but is still green and learning. Felix is young still and will make mistakes, but since the Looters are going no where this year the Looters can roll with the punches and enjoy the games he does put his talent all together. Felix had 2 solid starts including his most recent giving up 2 runs over 6.1 innings to get a win over Sacramento.
RF Jon Love - .231/.286/.346, 104 ABs, 3 2B, 3 HR
Jon finished the month terribly and is on a cold streak, but it's not all his fault. Love was counted on to be a backup outfielder this year and was forced into starting duties upon the concussion that ended the career of Raul Yan. He's further been pushed into more duty by the injury of Errol Hughes and departure of Francisco Soto.
LF Errol Hughes - .132/.288/.283, 53 ABs, 2 2B, 2 HR
Errol had a rough first half of the month before succumbing to an injury. He will be returning early June. He'll right his ship as he's not a bad player, but just hit an arctic cold streak.
